week 12

This is the final week of class and we learned about SNMP and the different versions of it and the differences between them, for example, the difference between SNMPv1 and SNMPv2 is one is 32 bit one is 64 bit while with the addition of SNMPv3 security was finally added to SNMP a well-needed addition to what was originally designed as a temporary solution until a better one can be found.  I also believe that there is no point to any other SNMP being in use minus v3 because v1 and v2 might as well have only been prototypes for v3 as there is no downside to the final version over the earlier versions only improvements making v1 and v2 obsolete with the invention of v3.

week 11

There are many common problems that we face as IT employees its our responsibility to keep the servers we oversee protected from data breaches of all types.  However, some are easier then other and some are just often forgotten as times goes on a good example is your employees password vulnerability this is easily solved by having your employees need to switch passwords every once in awhile as a simple protective policy while also having the password requirements set to be a lot stricter in order to stop employees from having exceedingly simple passwords.  Another way that is commonly forgotten is updating your servers firewalls periodically just to have more up to date software that hasn’t had a large amount of time for people to find exploits to get into your servers.

week 10

One of the things we learned about this week is virtualization something I have ample experience with under a sub-genre of this technology emulation which if you don't know what that is its to run a virtualized os of a console in order to run video games meant for a console on your phone or pc. That being said while emulation operates on the same concept as virtualization it has a different use case then the expected use of virtualization when we discuss IT work.  When we discuss virtualization and IT you would normally think about a virtualized system to be used as a verifier of sorts to protect your actual hardware from viruses and malware.

week 9

One of the things we learned this week is how to troubleshoot wifi networks for example if you are having slow connection issues an easy way to find out if it's on your end or your internet service providers simply plug in your laptop to your router or modem and set up a speed test if you aren't hitting your designated internet speeds based on your wifi plan the problem is with your internet service provider and you should call them to alert them to your issue.  If the speed isn't an issue its likely due to your network being overloaded with devices slowing it down considerably.

week 8

This week in class we learned about IPv4 and IPv6 and why IPv4 ended up being replaced by IPv6.  IPv4 was replaced because it simply couldn't keep up with how many IP addresses we actually need nowadays due to it being limited by its 32 bits system giving it a max of only 4.3 billion IP addresses.  This isn't enough for today's day and age where IPv6 can have a total of 340 undecillion IP addresses which is insane to think such a high number can be reached.  Although when it was made probably no one believed we would need more IP addresses then IPv4 can provide.
